When it comes to
play or temporary piercing we recommend you buy sterile
medical needles similar to
the ones used by diabetics. Our in-house piercing artist
recommends 22 gauge needles as they're small yet sturdy.
The last thing you need is a needle breaking off under
someone's skin. Use them for ONE instance only, and then
dispose of them in a certified biohazard container.
You wouldn't want to be the janitor or garbage man who
gets stabbed by an improperly disposed of needle. The
worry alone can take 10 years off of your life.
Before starting any piercing, swab the area with alcohol.
This will insure that no foreign matter or bacteria get
under the skin during the piercing.
As with knives, make sure you stay away from main arteries
and blood vessels, unless you do want some heavy
bleeding. With piercings there's the advantage that
once the needle is pulled out (at least with thin needles)
the bleeding stops almost immediately. Proper control can
increase the bleeding if that is what you're seeking. Just
remember to check with a Doctor (you don't need to tell
him why you need the info) as of how much blood can a
person of a certain weight (your sub's weight :) lose
without a problem. (I personally don't like
heavy bleedings, but I know some people who do).
